Solar PV Market Demand Away From Europe and Towards Asia

The top ten global PV manufacturers provided over 80% of global market demand in 2013. Each market has different unique policies, regulations and business models.   These factors can lead to unique market sizes and growth rates.

According to Marketbuzz 2014 report, we can see a unique trend that shows the shift of PV market demand away from Europe and towards Asia. Japan, China, and Thailand nominated as a fastest growing PV markets in 2013. Each market more than doubling their end market demand levels over the previous year. Three of the top European markets including Germany, Italy and France saw end market levels decline in 2013.

Please refer Annual Growth Rates in 2013 and 2013 market size and forecast 2014 growth rates.

Solar Becomes More Affordable In 2016

Solar industry grows faster than ever before. Still solar market provides less than 1% of total energy needs in the U.S. But very soon growth will be exponential.

According to German Deutsche Bank report, affordability will make massive solar adoption. Also this week forecasting that roof mounted solar will become at least as affordable if not more affordable than grid power by 2016 in 47 out of the 50 U.S. states. Report also shows that installed solar capacity in U.S. will increase 6-7 times over by end of 2016.

As a result of solar becomes more affordable and as electric vehicles prices and battery storage drop in price and become more common, solar adoption will continue to increase. And grid defection is a likely result.

World Class Renewable Energy Training and Research Center

A Solar Farm
This posting is somewhat of a wish that could happen if all the marbles fall into place.  Last evening Feb. 24th I had the lucky privilege of meeting with a fellow who owns 350 acres of one of the most suitable places I've seen in Canada for putting in 3 x 10 MW RBI solar mounting systems as well as 27 MW of wind generation.

The property is broken into 3 separate 100, 150 and 100 acre parcels that also has the local utility lines passing through the property in the middle as well as Hydro 1 lines at one side of the property.  The owner has done a great deal or research and has most of the homework done with contact information and surveys, drawings, etc about the available connections options.

He did most of the work himself because he use to work for Hydro 1 back before Mike Harris sold off the nuclear reactors.  He would love to create a world class renewable energy, solar training, wind generation, and research center, if he could find the right sponsors and financial backing.  The property has several large 40,000 square ft. buildings as well that would house many areas of research, or university centers, training facilities, demonstration manufacturing plants etc.

The vision for this came from 4 individuals as we talked about the property and what it could be used for.  If anyone is interested further about this property we will be holding an information session for select possible candidates.   At the moment this is just a vision among 4 individuals.

Of course the impending election will most likely be the deciding factor as to this project ever having a chance of coming to fruition.  Let’s all hope that the Liberals win the next election or the Conservatives have a change of heart and see the wisdom in the renewable energy program that has been put together.  So far from Tim Hudak’s point of view the conservatives are into dismantling anything of value again.  Remember the highway 407 issue and how now private ownership is making serious money that could be helping every Ontarian.
